Whit's End
Our first custom beer recipe - a traditional wheat beer brewed with Avangard Wheat and Briess Heritage Gold Malt with Willamette hops.
The Breakery
We are regularly brewing new small batch beers and finding ways to incorporate elements of the brewing process into our baked goods. Unfortunately, since we operate under Michigan's Cottage Food Law, our beer is not available for purchase.
However, you can still learn a little more about our beers and the brewing/baking process below.
The Beer
Our first custom beer recipe - a traditional wheat beer brewed with Avangard Wheat and Briess Heritage Gold Malt with Willamette hops.
A fruity take on Whit's End, but brewed with fresh, homemade raspberry puree.
A classic porter brewed with Marris Otter, chocolate, and black malts and finished with fresh vanilla beans.
The Process
We practice "all-grain" brewing with no extracts. The process consists of boiling grain, malt, and hops into a wort (like a tea) and then adding yeast to start the fermentation process.
Before fermentation, the "spent grains" are removed and - usually - thrown away. We keep a portion of our spent grain, dry it out in an oven, and grind it into flour to use in the baking process, which adds richer colors and flavors.
We use our finished product (beer!) in several of our baked good, including our chocolate stout and white velvet cakes. We also use the spent grain and spent grain flour to make granola, biscuits, pretzels, and more!
